Turn on the TV or any device you use for news, or scroll through any social site, and those four words of the title may be ones you say or shout at whomever on the screen. Some people—though, I’m sure none of them are among this journal’s readers ;0)—may, instead of those four words, say or shout a few four-letter ones. To borrow from Elvis, there’s a whole lotta nonsense going … [Read more...] about GIVE IT A REST!

How My Mother and I Disagree
Having a mother who has very strong opinions about “retirement”, I thought I would share my take on the subject. While I agree with Barbara on her thought that there’s this “senior culture” that caters to the idea that your first step of retirement often is to check into senior living facility and play cards until your dead, I have a different perspective. I will share … [Read more...] about How My Mother and I Disagree
“Better Late Than Never” Choices
Isn't it crazy that at age 65 or sooner we stop doing what we've done most of our life and suddenly become a "Didn't you used to be "? If it has happened to you, then you know what I mean. People often ask me, "Didn't you used to be a pharmacist"? My answer is, "Yes, and I still am. I complete continuing education requirements to keep my license current. I worked too hard to … [Read more...] about “Better Late Than Never” Choices
The Morris-Garner Tribe At Christmas
We had a wonderful Christmas again and I thought I'd share a couple of photos of "My Tribe". It's a tiny tribe but awesome. In the left photo, from left to right: Grandson Alex, Grandson Michael, Barbara (minus makeup and shoes -- the "real" me), daughter Pat and her saintly husband Bob, whom I call Mr. Bob. Oh, yes, there is also Corgi Sammy, our fierce, ferocious, courageous … [Read more...] about The Morris-Garner Tribe At Christmas

It’s such a tempting ride, though, isn’t it? Here’s how the typical bandwagon rolls. One person who holds a grievance about someone or something makes a (usually false or … [Read more...] about Mind Chatter

Thoughts on Hospital Food and Health
A few weeks ago, I had appendicitis and needed to have my appendix removed. I was in the hospital for 3 nights. The nurses and other healthcare providers were wonderful. My rant is about the food and the sinful waste I experienced. For the first day I was on a liquid diet. Breakfast was clear liquid which consisted of broth, decaf coffee, Jello and some sort of sugary shaved … [Read more...] about Thoughts on Hospital Food and Health
To Miss Hazel With Love
I love sharing stories from the past, especially during the holiday season. The world seems to be shaking on its axis, but we, the "seasoned" ones can sprinkle a little sanity, a little laughter and perhaps some wisdom, by sharing stories with the ones who came and continue to come, after us. I love sharing the story of Miss Hazel each year because I learn something new … [Read more...] about To Miss Hazel With Love

Gert Boyle, R.I.P.
Gert Boyle, CEO of Columbia Sportswear has passed. I learned about this amazing woman many years ago, and I feel a great loss. She was tough, independent, fearless, and inspiring, the ultimate role model for all older feisty women who knew what they wanted to achieve in spite of "age" and other would-be deterrents and went ahead and did it, often in unorthodox ways. Read … [Read more...] about Gert Boyle, R.I.P.
