Progressive Christianity vs. Bible-Based Christianity

This writing isn’t meant to bash those with a Progressive bent of heart and mind regarding the One True God, Triune through the Father, Messiah Jesus, and Holy Spirit. However, the Word of God is like a two-edged sword: it has potential to both wound and or heal.

The fact is this: My heart aches for, and I pray for, Progressive Christians. They’re on the wrong bus but believe it will take them to their desired destination. It won’t and can’t. Otherwise, God would be a liar. And that position (liar) is already taken. Nor are they able to receive God’s truth (more later on why this is).

We shouldn’t be surprised that Christianity for Progressives mirrors Culture for Progressives. They’ve told us what “truth” is for them: Fluid, based on the feelings of every individual who fits into myriad Progressive boxes; an ever-changing reality and experience of it, depending on one’s mood or affectation of influence from whatever the narrative of the moment might be—or, candidly, the level of demonic influence over them, sometimes unknowingly, sometimes willingly.

This is why everything is fluid in a Progressive person’s experience of their world: Gender, pronouns, math sums, our nation’s borders, what a woman or a mother is, who can menstruate and get pregnant, our Constitution, good vs. evil, on and on, including Who Jesus is and what His Word says and means. In the Progressive Christians’ world, they do not follow Who Jesus is or what His Word says in both Old and New Testaments, but instead, their Jesus follows them and their fluidity—He’s progressive, like them.

Sometimes, their inability to receive the truth is from or allowed by God: “He [the Adversary/Lucifer] will enable him [Antichrist] to deceive, in all kinds of wicked ways, those who are headed for destruction because they would not receive the love of the truth that could have saved them. This is why God is causing them to go astray, so that they will believe the Lie. The result will be that all who have not believed the truth, but have taken their pleasure in wickedness, will be condemned.” – 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12 CJB

Jesus made clear that He does not change; He’s exactly Who He told us He is in both Old and New Testaments. We do not get to change Him, He changes us—that is, those who have the fear of the LORD in their hearts and minds. God is also clear that He will not give a new, clean spiritual heart to a person who neither wants one or believes s/he needs one. And the farther and further one goes away from the Father and the new spiritual heart He wants to give, the more hardened the heart of a person becomes, and the colder their love grows. This explains why some people, in increasing numbers these days, are growing in favor of “abortion” anytime between conception and two years after birth; why progression toward legalizing pedophilia—starting in infancy—and removing all stigma about it is in motion; and stripping a child’s true God-given identity via gender confusion, race, etc., is being not only championed by Progressives, but defended as though everything depends on it.

Progressive Culture is drenched in feelings and emotions. When someone’s emotions control “reality” for all in their sphere (or wider), we have exchanged reality for mass psychosis (I looked up the definition of psychosis: It’s the correct word to use here). The Greek translation for “truth” is “in reality.” What Messiah Jesus wants us to understand is that the truth He told us in His Word—the only reality—will remove the overlay of deception placed there by the Adversary to deceive us and put us on “the wrong bus.”

A true-story example: An adolescent female read a Scripture passage aloud in Bible study. When finished, she looked at the pastor and said, “I really don’t think God should have done that.” She didn’t believe Almighty God, Creator of her and all in existence, Provider of her next breath, had a right to do what He’d done. She was serious. In her regressive-Progressive culture, there is no fear of God. Proverbs 1:7 CJB states, “The fear of ADONAI is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.” Progressive Christians have no fear of the LORD—because they continue to remake Him in their image, which follows the narrative pushed by other Progressives.

Having resided in New Age for most of my life, I can aver, EVERY form of non-Christianity is, knowingly or unknowingly, rebellion against God, choosing instead the way that allows people to do whatever they want—they are the god of and in their lives. It’s Lucifer’s enticing statement: “Do as thou wilt.” Last thing he wants any human (he detests each one of us) to do is surrender our heart, mind, love, and reverence to the God Who created us and went to the Cross to redeem us—from him. It’s why such people have always rejected Messianic Christians, and why Messiah Jesus told us how this rejection will increase in the End Times. We’re witnessing it now, on a ramping-up scale.

This past week (mid-April 2022), God continued to lead me to focus on the New Covenant and how fear of the LORD is not only the beginning of wisdom, but our sole/soul way to receive what the Holy Spirit is to provide to us: “…full revelation of the promises and provisions of the New Covenant.” [It Is Finished: Finding Lasting Victory Over SIN by David Wilkerson; see book cover below.]

Throughout the Old and New Testaments, Messiah Jesus tells us REPEATEDLY of the imperative of walking in the fear and reverence of the LORD, and the promises and blessings imparted as a result. I don’t know about you, but I’ve found myself praying—for more than a year now—for a new spiritual heart, or as King David requested of God, a clean heart and a renewed spirit. This month, God led me to understand there’s a difference between restraining grace that keeps us from physically sinning vs. a renewing grace that is a true change of heart regarding sin, including in thought, as well as word and deed, and how sin grieves Holy Spirit and therefore God the Father’s heart, which too few of us tend to consider.

Another aspect of God too many forget to consider, especially Progressive Christians (because of what is required of them to be Progressive), is that HE IS A HOLY GOD. He made clear in His Word that what He says is vile and forbidden is forever vile and forbidden and cannot, will never, be allowed in His Kingdom or Presence. For example, the following two Scriptures are abhorrent and unacceptable to a Progressive Christian:

“This is why God has given them up to the vileness of their hearts’ lusts, to the shameful misuse of each other’s bodies. They have exchanged the truth of God for falsehood, by worshipping and serving created things, rather than the Creator – praised be he for ever. Amen. This is why God has given them up to degrading passions; so that their women exchange natural sexual relations for unnatural; and likewise the men, giving up natural relations with the opposite sex, burn with passion for one another, men committing shameful acts with other men and receiving in their own persons the penalty appropriate to their perversion. In other words, since they have not considered God worth knowing, God has given them up to worthless ways of thinking; so that they do improper things. They are filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and vice; stuffed with jealousy, murder, quarreling, dishonesty and ill-will; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God; they are insolent, arrogant and boastful; they plan evil schemes; they disobey their parents; they are brainless, faithless, heartless, and ruthless. They know well enough God’s righteous decree that people who do such things deserve to die; yet not only do they keep doing them, but they applaud others who do the same.” – Romans 1:24-32 CJB

“How blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they have the right to eat from the Tree of Life and go through the gates into the city! Outside are the homosexuals, those involved with the occult and with drugs, the sexually immoral, murderers, idol-worshippers, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.” – Revelation 22:14-15 CJB

You can practically hear the adolescent female say, “I don’t believe God has a right to say or do that. My God loves everyone and tolerates everything.” [Please be sure to read the articles provided at the links below.]
