I don’t like using the words “crap” or “crappy.” It’s crude. However, there is no better word to describe many aspects of the American diet. A look at what’s in shopping carts at the supermarket shows where most health abuse begins.
Abuse often happens because we are lied to or misled about the products most people eat. A current TV ad for a cornflakes product boldly and proudly suggests how simple and good it is. The commercial voiceover says that ingredients consist of “grain, sugar, salt, and malt, and that’s it!” Then, as an afterthought, it mentions unidentified vitamins and minerals and “ice cold milk.” What a wonderful way to start a day! No, it’s not wonderful!! It’s crap!
Have you seen the TV ad for Eggos Waffles? A voiceover declares that they are “wholesome.” I asked Google about that claim, and here is the reply: “No, Eggo Waffles are generally not considered healthy because they are ultra-processed, made with refined flour, and contain high levels of sugar and sodium, which contribute to high-calorie and low-nutrient profiles. While they are fortified with vitamins and minerals, this does not offset their other unhealthy characteristics, and healthier alternatives like whole-grain or higher-fiber options are available.”
Wow! Remember, the voiceover in the TV commercial suggests that Eggos are “wholesome.” Let’s call it what it is: Crap. It’s a lawsuit for misrepresentation waiting to happen.
Sadly, most of the population eats this and other crap, pretty exclusively. As a result, a climate is created within the malnourished body that allows a variety of diseases to appear, such as high blood pressure, rheumatism, arthritis, gall bladder issues, frequent upset stomach, diarrhea, or diabetes. How about cancer? It is well documented that what we eat or do not eat may cause cancer. Let’s understand this: WE ARE AND BECOME WHAT WE EAT!
Then we shake our heads in disbelief, and whine, “How could this happen to me? What did I do to deserve all this misery? Well, I’m 70 and I guess it’s just a part of getting old. (Age has nothing to do with it.) I’ll go to the doctor and he will give me a boatload of meds that won’t cure anything, but for sure, they will really make me feel even more crappy!” It’s simple: spend a lifetime eating nutritionally bankrupt crap, and the body will eventually look, feel, and behave like crap.
A large portion of the public has been taught and conditioned to be fearful of even the most basic nutritional and vitamin supplements, yet on a regular basis, they will happily stuff their bodies with absolute crap that may be making them sick and shortening their lives. Not only does the American public love its crappy diet, but it also eats it all day long:
Crappy breakfast: Corn flakes or Eggos. Fake orange juice.
Crappy mid-morning snack: Coffee and a donut.
Crappy lunch: Baloney on white bread, chips, soda, and a piece of cake.
Crappy mid-afternoon pick-me-up: Another donut.
Crappy dinner: Pizza or fast-food delivery. A vegetable? No.
And then — the grand finale in the evening — crappy chips and crappy soda in front of the TV, watching ads for more crap.
Do you drink so much soda that you buy it by the case? My sister did. She had cases of Coke in her garage. She died of colon cancer. Was the cause the relentless gulping of Coke?

Learning to love crap starts early in life. Remember Baby Henry’s first birthday party? A birthday cake with a ton of sugary frosting. He got it all over his face and in his mouth and his taste buds loved it. It’s washed down with sugary juice. He’s been introduced to a big part of the disastrous American diet.
People load up with a lot of crap at the supermarket, then complain about the cost of food. Yes, crappy food is expensive; real food is expensive, too. More people could afford more real food if they stopped wasting money on alcohol and crap masquerading as food.
This is a link for “real” food. Yes, it’s expensive and may shock you, but you get what you pay for. Learn about “good” farming here. (Excellent videos are educational for kids. They need to know where real food comes from.)
When was the last time you ate a tomato that tasted like a tomato? Supermarket tomatoes are usually grown indoors under controlled conditions, producing a uniformly beautiful, spotless, tasteless commercial product. They are treated with an assortment of chemicals to preserve their fresh appearance and keep them bug-free. Are they worth buying and eating?
The reality is that eating so much crap is a habit that can be modified and eventually broken. Be the boss of your health and body to the extent that you can. Kick crap to the curb and out of your lifestyle!
Here is the good news: With effort, we CAN eat better. We CAN cut out the crap. We CAN learn to question what’s advertised. We CAN educate ourselves. We CAN feel better. We CAN start now. It’s not rocket science! You and your loved ones are worth it!
